Luján Visits Sandia Labs; Discusses Tech Transfer, Wide Range of Issues

Congressman Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) visited Sandia National Laboratories this week to meet with lab employees and discuss issues of interest to the Labs. The Congressman was briefed by Sandia personnel and discussed topics including tech transfer and other issues related to the innovation infrastructure in New Mexico and across the country. The Congressman toured the facility and also received a briefing from representatives from two tech companies -- mPower and SolAero/Solar Glitter that have developed technologies in cooperation with Sandia and are now exploring ways to commercialize these breakthroughs. The Congressman also discussed his legislation to further expand the tech transfer program.

"The 17 Department of Energy laboratories, including Sandia, conduct research and development in the nation's interest. They are testbeds of amazing technology and cutting-edge science. We need a mechanism to help effectively translate technological breakthroughs born in our labs into fully viable commercial applications," said Lujan. "When I work with my colleagues in Congress to make decisions on national investments, visits like this allow me to emphasize the strong return on investment that DOE provides through its 17 National Laboratories to our national security and economic development.
