Rep. Sewell Statement on Trump Jr. Meeting with Russian Lawyer

Statement

Date: July 12, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

On Tuesday, Donald Trump Jr. released email text exposing information about his meeting with a "Russian government attorney" who promised to provide damaging information about Hillary Clinton as part of Russia's support for the Trump campaign. Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell, a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, releases the following statement:

"What we learned this week about the Trump campaign's meeting with a Russian official is deeply disturbing and highly unethical," said Congresswoman Terri Sewell. "What's worse, the Trump campaign's failure to disclose their meeting to our intelligence community even after news broke on Russian election interference was a complete breach of basic civic responsibility. On the House Intelligence Committee, it's our job to gather all the facts about this meeting, including testimony from those who attended and any related documents. The American people deserve to know whether this meeting was used by the Russians to test the waters with the Trump campaign and what follow up was conducted by Russian officials."
