Rep. Sewell: House GOP Budget is "Short-Sighted and Cruel"

On Tuesday, House Republican leaders unveiled the House Republican 2018 budget resolution. The budget assumes $5.4 trillion in spending cuts over ten years, including half a trillion dollars in cuts to Medicare, and another $1.5 trillion from dismantling the Affordable Care Act and cutting Medicaid and other health programs.

Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (D-AL) releases the following statements:

"Budgets are a reflection of our priorities, and in this case, Republican leaders in Congress have made it clear that they prioritize wealthy individuals over working people trying their best to make it in America," said Rep. Terri Sewell. "To pay for tax cuts for the wealthy, the GOP budget slashes investments in economic development, education, health care, and public safety. Refusing to provide a path to success for working families and struggling Americans is short-sighted and cruel. If Republican leaders want to "Build a Better America,' they cannot abandon seniors, workers, low-income individuals, students, the disabled, and all those who need a hand up."
