U.S. Senator Susan Collins, a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, released this statement following the release of the President's fiscal year (FY) 2018 budget request:

"The President's budget request is always subject to significant revision by Congress, and this budget will be no exception. Throughout my time in the Senate, I have never seen a President's budget make it through Congress unchanged.

"The release of President Trump's budget today marks the first step in the annual process of funding our government. As we move forward, I will work closely with my colleagues as a member of the Appropriations Committee to develop a revised budget that eliminates wasteful and duplicative programs while making smart investments in biomedical research, infrastructure, national security, and other important priorities for our country."
