Brown Named to House Armed Services, Natural Resources and Ethics Committees

Congressman Anthony Brown (MD-4) has been appointed to serve on the Armed Services Committee, the Committee on Natural Resources and the Committee on Ethics for the 115th Congress.

"It is an honor to have been selected to serve on the House Armed Services Committee and shape the policies to ensure we maintain the best-trained and best equipped military, make the right investments to fight 21st century threats, and keep our country strong and safe," said Congressman Brown. "Maryland and the 4th Congressional District are home to thousands of active duty military, contractors, veterans and key military installations, such as Joint Base Andrews and Fort Meade. I am eager to represent and advocate for them."

Having joined the ROTC while an undergraduate at Harvard University, Congressman Brown was awarded the Legion of Merit for his 30 years of distinguished military service and the Bronze Star for his service in Iraq. After spending five years on active duty as a helicopter pilot in Germany during the Cold War, Congressman Brown served for 25 years in the Army Reserve and attained the rank of Colonel.

In addition to Armed Services, Congressman Brown was named to the House Committee on Natural Resources, which considers legislation on climate change, American energy production, mining, parks, public lands, fisheries and wildlife, Native Americans, hydropower, and reclamation.

"We must do our part to address climate change, restore our waterways including protecting the Chesapeake Bay watershed, expand our clean energy economy and advance the cause of environmental justice for all our families," added Congressman Brown. "I am eager to use my platform on the Natural Resources Committee to ensure future generations of Marylanders enjoy a clean and healthy environment."

Congressman Brown was also tapped by Democratic leaders to serve on the bipartisan House Committee on Ethics. The Ethics Committee interprets, investigates and enforces the House Code of Official Conduct and rules regarding gifts, financial disclosure and other activities of Members of Congress and employees. Congressman Brown served on the Joint Committee on Legislative Ethics during his tenure in the Maryland General Assembly.
