Hudson Statement on Senate Companion to Concealed Carry Reciprocity Bill

Today U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) released the following statement after Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) introduced companion legislation to his bipartisan Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017 (H.R. 38):

"Senator Cornyn has long been a champion for our Second Amendment rights and I'm pleased to see him continue his strong leadership on national concealed carry reciprocity. With a groundswell of support from Americans across the country and a pro-Second Amendment president, I believe we can make national concealed carry reciprocity a reality."

Rep. Hudson's bill, which is supported by major pro-Second Amendment groups and has 160 cosponsors, would allow law-abiding citizens with a state-issued concealed carry license or permit to conceal a handgun in any other state that allows concealed carry, as long as the permit holder follows the laws of that state. It also allows law-abiding residents of Constitutional carry states the ability to carry in other states that recognize their own residents' right to concealed carry.

Rep. Hudson, who is nationally recognized as a strong advocate for our Second Amendment rights, introduced similar legislation in the 114th Congress. This bill, H.R. 986, had 216 cosponsors. In addition, his amendment to stop President Obama's "green-tip" bullet ban passed the House and helped put intense pressure on the administration to abandon its unilateral attempt to restrict our right to keep and bear arms.
