In H.R. 3, the Transportation Equity Act, under the category "Projects of National and Regional Significance" or the so-called "Mega-projects," the line item titled "Union Depot Multimodal Transit Facility" received $50 million. It was one of 25 mega-projects.

"This is a massive investment in a legacy project that will give birth to both transit and an economic transformation for St. Paul and the East Metro. Jim Oberstar is a real hero for his work with me on this project. Our vision of transit and riverfront redevelopment is now on its way to becoming a reality."
