DURBIN STATEMENT REGARDING FAA ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT FOR O'HARE MODERNIZATION

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) today made the following statement regarding the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for modernization at O'Hare International Airport:

"Earlier today, the FAA released the final Environmental Impact Statement for O'Hare modernization. After so many years of struggle, construction can now begin as early as September."

"I spoke last night with Federal Aviation Administrator Marion Blakey about the modernization of O'Hare. I think it's clear that the FAA and the Department of Transportation understand the significance of this project for building aviation capacity in the Chicago region - which will help alleviate frustrating flight delays, create jobs, further economic development in the Chicagoland area and ensure that O'Hare remains a world-class airport."

"I look forward to the formal Record of Decision from the FAA in September and for the long awaited beginning of O'Hare modernization."

"Administrator Blakey and Secretary Mineta deserve credit for their willingness to keep this project on track. I will continue to work with them, Governor Blagojevich, and Mayor Daley to make O'Hare modernization a reality."
