Menendez, Booker Announce Nearly $400K in Federal Grants to Protect Firefighters in Millburn, Bridgeton, Cliffwood, Oceanville

U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker today announced the awarding of a combined $393,574 in federal Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG) funding to improve safety and operations in local volunteer and professional fire departments across New Jersey. The AFG program is administered by the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

"We should provide our firefighters with the resources they need to effectively protect while remaining safe on the job," said Sen. Menendez. "These federal investments in our local fire departments are critical to preserving public safety, and I will continue to fight each day to bring more funds back to New Jersey."

"Communities across New Jersey and our nation rely on the bravery and expertise of local first responders to keep our families safe," said Sen. Booker. "By providing New Jersey's local fire departments the latest equipment and training through federal investments like this, we are letting our first responders know that their safety and ability to do their jobs efficiently is paramount."

The following grants were awarded:
$231,613- Millburn Fire Department (Essex)
To improve operations and safety

$88,572- Cliffwood Volunteer Fire Company (Monmouth)
To improve operations and safety

$65,455- City of Bridgeton Fire Department (Cumberland)
To purchase emergency medical equipment

$7,934- Oceanville Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 (Atlantic)
To improve operations and safety

Since it was established in 2001, New Jersey has received nearly $163 million in funding from the AFG program to enhance response capabilities, as well as to more effectively protect the health and safety of the public and emergency response personnel.
