U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), Chairman of the House Committee on Rules, released the following statement in response to President Trump's announcement regarding the appointment of Judge Neil Gorsuch to serve as an Associate Justice on the United States Supreme Court:
"I am thrilled to hear that President Trump has appointed Judge Neil Gorsuch to serve as an Associate Justice on the United States Supreme Court. Judge Gorsuch's jurisprudence at the 10th Circuit Court reveals that he is a brilliant writer and a committed textualist, which makes him supremely qualified to replace the great Justice Antonin Scalia.
"This nomination comes at an important time for our country, and I believe that Judge Gorsuch is highly qualified to take the text and structure of the Constitution seriously and apply it to the challenging cases that will come before the Court. It is my hope that the United States Senate confirms Judge Gorsuch in a timely fashion and that he serves a long career on the Supreme Court dedicated to defending the principles of limited government, federalism, the separation of powers, and the rule of law."
