Klobuchar and Bipartisan Group of Senators Pledge to Preserve Existing Senate Rules to Engage in Debate and Compromise on Legislation

Following the vote on Justice Neil Gorsuch, which required a procedure change for confirming Supreme Court justices, U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) was one of 61 senators who, in a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), pledged to preserve Senate rules to engage in debate and compromise in order to pass legislation.

The senators wrote the following to the two leaders:

"We are mindful of the unique role the Senate plays in the legislative process, and we are steadfastly committed to ensuring that this great American institution continues to serve as the world's greatest deliberative body," the senators wrote. "Therefore, we are asking you to join us in opposing any effort to curtail the existing rights and prerogatives of Senators to engage in full, robust, and extended debate as we consider legislation before this body in the future."
