Williams Votes to Increase Defense Funding

Congressman Roger Williams (R -- Austin), who represents Fort Hood in the U.S. Congress, on Wednesday evening voted for the Fiscal Year 2017 Defense Appropriations Bill to increase base discretionary military spending by $2 billion from the previous year.

"Today we voted to give our troops a much deserved pay raise, upgrade our equipment and ensure military readiness," said Williams. "Since I first ran for Congress, I have said that the most important role of the federal government is to provide for a strong national defense and, in this bill, that is exactly what we are doing."

Specifically, the funding measure will dedicate $132 billion for military personnel and $34 billion for health care, benefits and psychological and cancer research.
