U.S. Representative Tim Walz (MN-01) released this statement following recent reports concerning the 2016 election and Russian ties to American citizens and U.S. political operatives:

"As a result of the developments that have been reported over the last few days, the already mounting stack of serious questions that remain unanswered continues to grow. The American people not only deserve to know how the United States was attacked in the 2016 election but also who all is responsible for this assault on the heart of our democratic institutions.

Congress must immediately create an independent, bipartisan commission to investigate the full extent of the Vladimir Putin-ordered Russian attack on our democracy including, but not limited to, all relevant ties between Russia and any American citizen or U.S. political operative."

Rep. Walz is a cosponsor of the Protecting Our Democracy Act (H.R. 356), a bill to establish a National Commission on Foreign Interference in the 2016 Election.
