Walberg, House Advance Landmark Veterans Accountability Legislation

Statement

Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) today voted for the Department of Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act, which passed the House by a 368-55 vote. This bipartisan bill provides the VA Secretary increased flexibility to remove, demote, or suspend VA employees for poor performance or misconduct. It also provides improved protections for whistleblowers and prohibits employees who engaged in misconduct from receiving a bonus.

"The entrenched culture problems and mismanagement at the VA has gone on for far too long," said Walberg. "While most VA employees are dedicated and hardworking, bad actors who abuse their positions and fall short in their duties need to be held accountable. These bipartisan reforms are absolutely critical to help clean up the VA, usher in a new era of accountability, and ensure America's veterans receive high quality care worthy of their service and sacrifice."
