Rep. Rokita Supports Israel; Opposes UN Security Council Resolution

Statement

Location: Danville, IN
Issues: Foreign Affairs

Today, Rep. Todd Rokita released the following statement on a proposed United Nations (UN) resolution regarding Israel.

"The UN should work to keep peace and develop friendly relations among the nations of the world, not to defame and bully Israel. It is a welcome sign that this resolution has been pulled.

"Because Israel is a friend and ally to the United States, the Obama Administration should take the advice of the House of Representatives and President-elect Donald Trump to veto this resolution were it to return for a vote."

Rep. Rokita cosponsored H.Con.Res. 165, which expresses the sense of Congress to reaffirm longstanding American policy in support of a direct bilaterally negotiated settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and expressing opposition to UN Security Council resolutions imposing a solution to the conflict. H.Con.Res. 165 passed the House by voice vote on November 29 and was received in the Senate.
