Senator Hassan Statement on the Release of Federal Funding to Fight Opioid Epidemic

Statement

Date: April 20, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

Senator Maggie Hassan released the following statement after the Trump Administration announced that it will be releasing $3.1 million in 21st Century Cures Act funding to New Hampshire to fight the heroin, fentanyl and opioid crisis:

"The substance misuse epidemic is the most pressing public health and public safety issue facing New Hampshire, and we know that we need more resources on the front lines now in order to combat this crisis and save lives. While the $3.1 million New Hampshire will receive under this legislation is a good start, it is not nearly enough. I urge the Trump Administration to ensure that in the future funding is distributed based on need, so that states like New Hampshire that need it most receive a greater share. This crisis requires continued and urgent action across all levels of government, and I will continue to work across party lines to provide more resources to strengthen prevention, treatment, recovery, and law enforcement efforts."
