Senator Maggie Hassan issued the following statement after voting to confirm Governor Sonny Perdue as Agriculture Secretary:

"New Hampshire's agriculture and dairy industries are critical to our economy and our way of life, and we need a Secretary of Agriculture who will ensure that our farmers and rural communities have the support that they need. The Agriculture Secretary also has a crucial role to play in managing our National Forests and ensuring food safety. Governor Perdue has a strong agriculture background, and I'm encouraged that he has acknowledged the USDA's role in supporting rural communities, including efforts to combat the substance misuse crisis. I voted to confirm Governor Perdue as Agriculture Secretary, and I will continue working with members of both parties to support our rural communities and agriculture industry."
