Capito Urges President-Elect Trump to Connect Rural America, Improve Broadband

In a letter to President-elect Donald Trump, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) is encouraging the new administration to include broadband deployment as a core component of any infrastructure proposals. In the letter, Senator Capito outlines the clear need for expanded broadband access in rural America, including West Virginia, and her desire to work with the new administration on this important issue.

Improving broadband accessibility in West Virginia has been and remains one of Senator Capito's top priorities since being sworn in to the U.S. Senate. As many as 74% of residents in the Mountain State lack proper access to broadband services that meet Federal Communications Commission (FCC) benchmarks. Senator Capito has led efforts to address this issue through her Capito Connect Plan and the recently launched Senate Broadband Caucus.

"West Virginia needs to grow and diversify its overall economy, and internet access is fundamental to that transition. Broadband can revolutionize rural communities by linking them to the national, and even global, economy. I look forward to working with [the Trump] administration to advance policies that bridge the digital divide across the country and provide the broadband infrastructure that our nation's urban and rural communities need to succeed," Senator Capito wrote.
