U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and the chairman of the Subcommittee on Strategic Forces, today released the following statement after the Senate confirmed Marine General James Mattis to lead the Department of Defense:

"I send my sincere congratulations to General Mattis on his confirmation for the position of Secretary of Defense. Experienced and honest, he is exactly the type of leader our nation needs right now, given the many dangers we face around the world. I look forward to working with General Mattis to provide our military with the resources they need to keep American families safe."
