U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), a member of the Senate Commerce Committee, made the following statement upon the Senate's confirmation of Elaine Chao to serve as Secretary of Transportation:

"Secretary Chao is a proven leader who brings a long list of qualifications and federal government experience to the Department of Transportation. I congratulate Secretary Chao on her confirmation to this position. Nebraskans know well the importance of reliable roads and strong infrastructure. In my capacity as the chairman of the Surface Transportation Subcommittee, I am eager to begin working with Secretary Chao on solutions that will strengthen the transportation infrastructure American families rely on each and every day."
