Fischer on Potential White House Plan to Simultaneously Address Tax Reform and Infrastructure

Statement

U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), the chairman of the Senate Surface Transportation Subcommittee, today released the following statement in response to news reports that the White House is considering a legislative strategy to tackle tax reform and infrastructure concurrently:

"I welcome the recent news reports that President Trump's administration is considering coupling tax reform and infrastructure. Combining these objectives makes sense because tax reform could generate new revenues from a deemed repatriation as we move to a territorial international tax system.

"I support using some of those revenues to fund infrastructure. One area where Congress could allocate the revenue is the national freight program, established in the FAST Act. This program funnels dollars to states so they can strategically advance freight highway projects for the benefit of urban and rural areas. Bolstering this important program would be a wise investment in our infrastructure and America's future."
