Hoyer Statement On WMATA Report To Improve Safety And Reliability Of Metro

Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement after Metro General Manager Paul Wiedefeld released the "Keeping Metro Safe, Reliable, and Affordable" report, a plan to address WMATA's continual financial issues:

"I am encouraged by General Manager Wiedefeld's proposed new plan to address WMATA's growing financial issues. As it serves more than a million passengers each day, reliable funding combined with governance reforms is the only way to ensure the safety of the transit system. I look forward to further reviewing this plan in more detail. I continue to believe that a sustainable and reliable funding source is the only way to deal with Metro's long-term capital needs, and I am committed to continuing to work with General Manager Wiedefeld as well as my colleagues in Congress to ensure that Metro regains the trust of riders through improved safety and reliability."
