Letter to Acting Secretary Doug Lamont - Urge the United States Army Corps of Engineers to Approve the Necessary Permits for the Riverfront Dock Expansion Project at Quiet Cove Riverfront Park

Letter

Date: April 17, 2017

I write to strongly urge the United States Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE) to approve the necessary permits for the riverfront dock expansion project at Quiet Cove Riverfront Park in the Town of Poughkeepsie, NY, with all due speed. This project, which will add a second parallel observation dock on the Hudson River, will complete a series of recent renovations to the park and have meaningful impact on both Dutchess County outdoor recreation and tourism alike. It is my hope that ACOE will swiftly issue the permit in response to the application submitted by Dutchess County so the project may proceed to implementation and become an asset to Dutchess County residents and tourists.

Located in the Town of Poughkeepsie, Quiet Cove Riverfront Park offers valued outdoor recreation for Dutchess County. Totaling 27 acres, the park offers picnic tables, fishing, walking trails and scenic overlooks on the upper section of the park and breathtaking views of the Hudson River. Dutchess County has recently implemented renovations to the park including a newly renovated shoreline, boat launches for canoes and kayaks, and a waterfront observation deck. The completion of this second and final observation dock, overlooking the Hudson River, would be the final piece to this park's exquisite puzzle.

Thank you for your consideration of this important project. I firmly believe this observation dock can add to the beauty of the Hudson River Valley. Should you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office.
