Congressman Juan Vargas (CA-51) released the following statement in support of House Resolution 11, denouncing the anti-Israel UN Resolution:

"On December 22nd, I urged the Obama Administration to veto the anti-Israel U.N. Security Council resolution (USNC Resolution 2334). By abstaining from voting, the United States allowed for its passage, ignoring its long-standing commitment to oppose and veto any resolutions that undermine Israel.

The UN resolution threatens Israel's security by legitimizing its critics and moves the region further from peace by imposing a one-sided solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, rather than allowing for direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians. And it supports unjust economic BDS campaigns against Israel.

In the interest of peace and the security of Israel, UNSC Resolution 2334 should be drastically changed or repealed.

I wholeheartedly support H. Res 11. This bipartisan effort will ensure that the United States will honor its commitment to our ally, Israel. The U.S. should denounce and veto any future UNSC resolutions that undermine the importance of direct negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians in order to achieve peace.

The United States government should never again be complicit in the passage of one-sided resolutions that impose solutions by international organizations that threaten the security of Israel and hinder direct, bilateral negotiations."
