Heinrich Releases Video On Facebook Opposing DeVos For Secretary Of Education

Today, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) released a video on Facebook reiterating his opposition to President Trump's Secretary of Education nominee Betsy DeVos. Thousands of New Mexicans have flooded Heinrich's office with letters, emails, and phone calls urging him to oppose DeVos's nomination.

"As somebody who went to public school myself and is sending my sons to public school I simply cannot support Betsy DeVos as our next Education Secretary." said Heinrich. "She has spent years and millions and millions of dollars to weaken the kinds of public schools that many New Mexicans rely on."

After carefully reviewing Betsy DeVos's record and qualifications as well as her Senate committee confirmation hearing, Heinrich stands with parents, teachers, and students across the country in fighting to stop her confirmation.

"We need an Education Secretary who is committed to ensuring that every single student has access to quality education, regardless of their background or what zip code they live in. Like the thousands of New Mexicans I've heard from recently, including many teachers, I don't believe that Ms. DeVos has shown this commitment," said Heinrich.
