Sessions Gives A+ to Measures to Roll Back Red Tape on America's Teachers

Statement

U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), Chairman of the House Committee on Rules, released the following statement in support of two measures to roll back the teacher preparation rule and the accountability rule imposed in the waning days of the Obama Administration:

"The Obama Administration's egregious power grab in our school systems has led to a one-size-fits-all approach that has contributed to a decaying education system that is failing to prepare America's students. We need a robust education system that prepares our youth to be leaders of tomorrow, not forces them to fit into an arbitrary mold created by Washington bureaucrats. We must also protect our most vulnerable students and teachers, especially in the special education community, who could be unnecessarily burdened by discriminatory federal standards.

"Today I proudly voted to roll back these two last minute rules to cut through unnecessary bureaucratic red tape that is strangling our teachers and hindering their ability to effectively and proficiently teach our students. This is a strong step in the right direction to strengthen our education system by taking power away from Washington and putting it back to where it belongs -- with local officials, school districts, teachers, and parents."
