Statement of the Hon. Rosa L. DeLauro Nomination of Judge John G. Roberts Jr.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn-3) released the following statement on President Bush's nomination of Judge John G. Roberts Jr. of the U.S. Court of Appeals to the Supreme Court last night.

"There is no doubt that Judge Roberts has the legal experience to serve on our nation's highest court. At the same time, a qualified justice must bring more to the Supreme Court than good credentials and a keen legal mind - he or she should also demonstrate a commitment to upholding the Constitution and the protections it provides all people.

"This is a lifetime appointment, so a careful and thorough examination of Judge Roberts's record is critical. I look forward to learning more about Judge Roberts as the Senate confirmation process begins."
