Letter to the Honorable Michael Dempsey, Acting Director of National Intelligence - Russian Involvement in 2016 Presidential Election

Letter

Date: Feb. 15, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

Dear Acting Director Dempsey:

As you know, the Intelligence Committees of Congress have begun bipartisan inquiries into the Russian Active Measures campaign against the U.S. The House Intelligence Committee's inquiry, among other things, specifically encompasses counterintelligence concerns related to Russia and the 2016 U.S. election.

While we fully expect that the committee's inquiry will contribute to our full understanding of the Russian intervention, the severity and urgency of the counterintelligence threat from Moscow demands more immediate attention.

Accordingly, we request a comprehensive intelligence briefing on Russia by February 28, 2017. This briefing should include information about former Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs Michael Flynn's contacts with Russian officials, and should also provide unredacted transcripts of any intercepted conversations or communications he had with Russian officials.

We also urge you to provide this information to the other Members of the Leadership of the House and Senate and the Members of the House and Senate Intelligence Committees.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

NANCY PELOSI
