Estes Announces Run for Congress

State Treasurer Ron Estes formally launched his campaign for the Fourth Congressional District Wednesday before a crowd of supporters at McGinty Machine Company in Wichita.

"In the private sector, Sedgwick County and State Treasurer's offices, I've been able to solve problems, find efficiencies and get results." Estes said. "I understand how to engineer conservative change."

"I will take that track record to Washington where I will work every day to cut spending, protect our country, eliminate excessive regulations, and fight for the traditional Kansas values we share."

Estes thanked the grassroots activists in attendance for the groundswell of encouragement and support since President Donald Trump tapped former 4th District Congressman Mike Pompeo to lead the CIA.

"I could not be more thankful and humbled by the urging of so many fellow grassroots conservatives to run in the special election," said Estes. "It is an enormous honor serving as Treasurer, and I am tremendously grateful for your support and our past electoral success."

Twice elected as Sedgwick County Treasurer, Estes was elected Kansas State Treasurer in 2010, defeating Dennis McKinney, an appointee of Kathleen Sebelius, by 17 points. He became the first statewide public official from the 4th district in over 15 years. Reelected in 2014, he earned more votes, with the highest percentage of the vote, of any statewide candidate.

Estes grew up on the family farm near Osage, Kansas where his mother, Lou, still resides. He has a degree in civil engineering and a graduate degree in business administration. He worked in the aerospace, oil & gas, and manufacturing fields. In 2004, he was elected Sedgwick County Treasurer. During the six years he served in that position, he implemented cost savings that returned over $1.5 million to the taxpayers. Ron, his wife Susan, and their three children live in Wichita where they have resided for 21 years.
