Murphy Celebrates 100 "murphy's Monday Manufacturers"

U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) joined manufacturers from across Connecticut in Middletown on Monday to celebrate reaching a milestone of 100 "Murphy's Monday Manufacturers." Murphy launched his weekly "Murphy's Monday Manufacturer" series in the fall of 2014 to recognize Connecticut's manufacturers for their unique contributions to our state. Murphy has supported several initiatives to train the state's advanced manufacturing workforce, reform laws to increase manufacturers' exports, and fight against unfair trade agreements. Later today, Murphy will announce specific actions President Trump should take to ensure American taxpayer dollars are spent buying American-made goods, not goods made overseas.

"Connecticut is home to thousands of incredible manufacturing companies and to an expertly skilled and devoted manufacturing workforce," said Murphy. "I'm honored to fight on their behalf every single day, and I want all of Connecticut to know how lucky we are that they call our state home. I hope that my "Monday Manufacturer' series brings well-deserved attention to these companies and their workers. Their hard work supports thousands of local families and is a bedrock of our economy."

Connecticut's 4,600 manufacturers account for 10% of the state's jobs and 96% of the state's total exports. Murphy has introduced two manufacturing and Buy American bills -- the 21st Century Buy American Act and the American Jobs Matter Act -- and plans to reintroduce the bills later this year. The Senate recently passed an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act authored by Murphy that will strengthen existing standards and prioritize the purchase of American-manufactured goods.
