Hoyer: New Report Highlights How Efforts to Make America Sick Again Will Impact Marylanders

Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released new numbers compiled by Democrats on the House Committees on Oversight and Government Reform and Energy and Commercedetailing the harmful impact on Marylanders if efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) are successful. "Repealing the Affordable Care Act will have devastating consequences for millions of Americans, including thousands of families in Maryland," said Congressman Hoyer. "From lowering the uninsured rate to saving seniors millions on prescription drugs, the Affordable Care Act has made health care accessible and affordable to thousands of Marylanders. I will continue to oppose efforts by Republicans in Congress to repeal the ACA without a plan to replace it, which would make America sick again."

Hundreds of thousands of Marylanders would be impacted by the Republican plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act without replacing it, including:

347,000 Marylanders would lose health insurance coverage, including 60,000 children;

975,000 Marylanders with pre-existing conditions would lose their coverage or see their costs increase significantly;

260,200 Marylanders enrolled in Medicaid would lose coverage if the Medicaid expansion is eliminated;

72,175 Marylanders who receive cost-sharing reductions would be at risk of having their health care become unaffordable;

2,953,834 Marylanders with private health insurance would lose access to preventative services; and

86,073 Maryland seniors would see the cost of their prescription drugs increase dramatically.
