Cornyn, Casey Introduce Proposal to Improve Access to Retirement Benefits for National Guard Members and Military Reservists

U.S. Senators John Cornyn (R-TX) and Bob Casey (D-PA) today introduced the Servicemember Retirement Improvement Act, bipartisan legislation to allow members of the National Guard and military reservists to take full advantage of federal retirement benefits. U.S. Representative Sam Johnson (R-TX) introduced a version of the bill in the House of Representatives earlier this year, and the legislation is supported by a broad spectrum of military and veterans' organizations.

"We ask a lot of the men and women of our armed services, and that is particularly the case with the National Guard members and reservists who put their civilian lives on hold when our country needs them most," Senator Cornyn said. "These dedicated individuals should be able to reap the full benefits of their military service, which is why I'm proud to work with Senator Casey on this important measure so these brave Americans can access their full retirement benefits."
