Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) released the following statement congratulating retired Marine Gen. James N. Mattis, on his selection by President-elect Trump to lead the U.S. Department of Defense:

"Tri-Citians can be proud that one of their own, General Mattis, with a distinguished military service of 41 years and deep knowledge of national security affairs, will serve as the next Secretary of Defense. The selection of Gen. Mattis can give all Americans confidence that President-elect Trump will be focused foremost on the safety and security of the United States."
