Rep. Tulsi Gabbard Statement on Implementation of Paris Climate Agreement

Statement

Date: Nov. 4, 2016
Location: Honolulu, HI

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (HI-02) released the statement below on the Paris Climate Agreement, which goes into effect today:

"Our future and the future of every generation to come depend on the health of our planet. The Paris Climate Agreement marks the first universal, legally-binding commitment to reduce carbon emissions and promote clean energy. It requires every nation to do their part by taking steps to reduce carbon pollution and share responsibility for the future of our planet. That being said, by no means is this a cure-all solution.

"We must ensure that our path forward benefits both our planet and our people. Millions of workers around the world, including in the United States, rely on the energy industry to put food on the table. Investing in renewable energy and sustainable jobs, as well as transitional training, will help to ensure these workers are not left behind. In fact, they are critical to the success of our future. The United States must lead by example--along with aggressively reducing our carbon pollution, we must commit to investing in clean energy research and development, promote the growth of green jobs at home, invest in sustainable infrastructure, and empower our workers to succeed in a new generation of clean energy."
