Issue Position

A good education can help children rise out of poverty and provide a better life for themselves. But too often, children fall through the cracks of an underfunded education system. I'm glad legislators in both parties came together with Governor Sandoval to pass a historic increase in education funding. Helping our kids get a good education should never be a partisan issue. This was an example of Democrats and Republicans coming together to solve problems, just as I did for eight years as Attorney General. Unfortunately, a bipartisan commitment to solving problems isn't something we see very often in Washington.

I will fight for more education funding because our kids cannot get a 21st Century education in an overcrowded classroom or a portable trailer. We need to make sure teachers have the tools they need for our kids to succeed. By working together, we can transform Nevada's education system so every child has an opportunity to succeed. I will also oppose any efforts by some in Washington to abolish the Department of Education. We need to do more for our kids, not less.
