Dear Fellow Texans:

Diwali's message of tolerance and compassion is one that resonates with all Texans, and the Festival of Lights is a wonderful opportunity to recommit ourselves to living out those virtues.

Today we celebrate light's triumph over darkness, good's triumph over evil, and most of all, hope's triumph over despair. As we come together across our communities, let us reflect upon the light shining in each other's hearts and the hope that prevails among us in the face of life's many challenges.

I was proud to help recognize this day by introducing a resolution to commemorate Diwali with a Forever Stamp, which the Postal Service announced they would issue in honor of what is a meaningful day for so many in Texas and across the country.

My wife, Sandy, and I send you our sincere wishes for a joyous and prosperous new year.
