Ayotte Receives Champion of Maritime Award from the American Maritime Partnership

On Thursday, U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte received the Champion of Maritime award from the American Maritime Partnership for her commitment to New Hampshire's maritime industry.

"I am honored to be recognized by the American Maritime Partnership, and I appreciate their commitment to furthering New Hampshire and our nation's maritime industry. Our maritime industry plays such an important role in maintaining New Hampshire and our nation's economy and is a provider of good jobs," said Senator Ayotte. "I am grateful for the dedicated work of companies like Moran Towing who work hard every day to ensure the safety and productivity of our ports and waterways, and I look forward to continuing our work together in the future to support this important industry."

As a member of the Senate Commerce Committee and the Senate Armed Services Committee, Ayotte has advocated for New Hampshire and the nation's maritime industry. Ayotte is a strong supporter of the Jones Act which seeks to help ensure the strength of our maritime industry while also preserving our national security. Additionally, Ayotte recently worked to include a provision in the Senate-passed Fiscal Year (FY) 2017 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA; S. 2943) to provide priority for the processing of applications for a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) for members undergoing separation from the Armed Forces - a TWIC card is necessary for entry into secure maritime areas. Ayotte is also a co-sponsor of the Vessel Incidental Discharge Act (S. 373), bipartisan legislation to set national regulations for vessel ballast water discharges.
