Issue Position

*Only majority member of the House Transportation & Infrastructure committee in the entire New York metropolitan region.

*Helped lead the effort to successfully pass the new 5 year fully funded Surface Transportation Bill, containing critical funding for important job creating projects, and improving the Long Island, state and national transportation economy. Led effort to secure in this bill language to reduce assaults on bus operators.

*Secured passage of his Safe Bridges Act (H.R. 3168) as part of the Surface Transportation Bill, which has already resulted in new funding to improve our local bridges.

*Champions the Fire Island to Montauk Point (FIMP) project to strengthen Long Island's south shore, which has now increased to a $1.16 billion effort.

*Saved Islip MacArthur Airport's weather observation station from a proposed FAA closure.

*Stopped proposals to allow heavier and longer trucks on our local roadways as well as a flawed proposal to reroute thousands of trucks from I-95 in Connecticut to our North Fork road system.

*Secured over $7.23 million in federal funding to improve the worn runways at Gabreski Airport, home of the Air National Guard's 106th Rescue Wing and a critical gateway for our tourist economy.
