Carter Supports Short Term Funding Bill

Statement

Today, Rep. John R. Carter (R-TX-31) supported a bipartisan measure that will keep the government funded through December 9 of this year. The bill funds discretionary government operations at the rate they were funded in fiscal year 2016, minus an across-the-board reduction of 0.496 percent. In addition, the legislation includes the text of the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act and includes supplemental appropriations for Zika prevention and response.

"The 31st District of Texas is the proud home to Fort Hood and close to 40,000 soldiers, more than 100,000 veterans, and tens of thousands seniors. While I much prefer funding our government operations through regular order, that was not an option to avoid a shutdown at the end of the week. This bill is not perfect, but it will ensure without interruption that our military continues to receive the tools necessary to defend our nation, that our veterans continue to receive benefits and care, and that our seniors continue to receive social security."
