Rep. Boozman Comments on Passage of Bill to Ensure Veterans Benefits Are Current

Washington, Jul 13 - U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR), chairman of House Veterans Affairs Economic Opportunity Subcommittee, today issued the following statement after House passage of H.R. 1220, the "Veterans' Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act of 2005." The legislation passed by voice vote this morning.

"Our efforts today are another example of our commitment to America's veterans," said Boozman. "At a time of war, it is especially important that our servicemen and women see that that their government will keep the promises made to them and that our current veterans receive all that is due to them."

Boozman continued, "The Third District of Arkansas has one of the largest veterans population in the country. I am committed to making sure that we keep our promises to these brave Americans and this action today is a good step in that direction."

The Veterans' Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act of 2005 will:

* Provide a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) to disability compensation rates for veterans with service-connected disabilities equal to the adjustment provided under Social Security;
* Provide a COLA to the rate of indemnity compensation for survivors of certain disabled veterans equal to the adjustment provided under Social Security;
* Authorize a 2-year project for improvement of business practices in the Veterans Health Administration;
* Permanently authorize six Parkinson's Disease Research Educational and Clinical Centers.
