RELEASE: Kelly Ayotte's Allies Hit Panic Button, Launch Despicable Personal Attack on Governor Hassan's Family

Last night, WMUR reported that Kelly Ayotte's personal Super PAC, which is run by her former campaign manager, reached a vile new low in their effort to re-elect Ayotte at any cost, showing there is truly no tragedy her special interest backers won't try to exploit for political gain.

"This despicable personal attack on Governor Hassan's family is truly beyond the pale and reflects the height of desperation from Kelly Ayotte's corporate special interest allies who are pressing the panic button as they see Ayotte slipping in the polls," said Maggie for NH Press Secretary Meira Bernstein. "First, Ayotte's allies tried to exploit the heroin crisis. Now, they're launching more disgusting political attacks despite the fact that the school went to the police and the campaign donated the old small-dollar contributions to charity. These desperate attacks show that there's no tragedy Ayotte's backers won't exploit to try to save Ayotte's seat, and she should be ashamed that her support for corporate special interests has led to this."

Here are the facts:

Tom Hassan and Phillips Exeter Academy officials went to the Exeter Police immediately after the initial allegations against this teacher were brought to their attention.

The Hassan campaign donated the old and small contributions to HAVEN, a member program of the New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence.

As a State Senator and as Governor, Maggie Hassan has strengthened domestic violence and human trafficking laws in New Hampshire, helped pass measures to protect children from sexual predators, and has worked to help colleges and universities develop best practices to respond to sexual violence on campus.

Just like Ayotte's allies' attacks exploiting the heroin crisis and the 2012 attacks on the Governor's family backfired, this attack will ultimately do more damage to Ayotte by showing how far her backers will go to try to save her seat.
