FACT CHECK: In New Ad, Ayotte Attempts to Cover Up Record of Siding with Big Pharma, Voting to Kick 50,000 Granite Staters Off Their Health Insurance

Today, Kelly Ayotte's campaign released a new ad intended to mislead Granite Staters about Ayotte's record of voting to kick 50,000 Granite Staters off their health insurance, make prescription drugs more expensive and undermine a woman's right to make her own health care decisions.

Here are the facts:

Ayotte voted five times to repeal New Hampshire's bipartisan Medicaid Expansion plan, which provides health care coverage to over 50,000 hard-working Granite Staters -- including crucial coverage for substance misuse treatment.

Ayotte has voted to turn Medicare into a voucher program, which the AARP said would "increase costs for beneficiaries while removing Medicare's promise of secure health coverage--a guarantee that future seniors have contributed to through a lifetime of hard work."

Ayotte has failed to stand up to Big Pharma and fight to allow Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices and has voted repeatedly against allowing the importation of prescription drugs from Canada, which would increase competition and lower prices.

And Ayotte has consistently voted to undermine a woman's right to make her own health care decisions -- including voting six times to defund Planned Parenthood, and voting to cut $1.3 billion from community health centers.

Ayotte's votes to repeal the Affordable Care Act would also force women to pay more for health care, including contraception and mammograms, and take us back to the days when being a woman was considered a pre-existing condition.

Maggie Hassan, on the other hand, worked across party lines to pass and reauthorize New Hampshire's business-backed Medicaid expansion plan. The Governor has also called for reforms to the Affordable Care Act, including repealing the Medical Device Tax and the Cadillac Tax, and she will always stand up for a woman's right to make her own health care decisions.

"Kelly Ayotte has consistently voted for the priorities of her corporate special interest backers, even when it hurts New Hampshire families and small businesses," said Maggie for NH Press Secretary Meira Bernstein. "But try as she might, Kelly Ayotte cannot hide her record of attempting to kick 50,000 Granite Staters off their health care and undermine a woman's right to make her own health care decisions. Granite Staters deserve a Senator who will fight for New Hampshire's priorities, and Kelly Ayotte is clearly not that Senator."
