Statement by Clay Cope in Response to the Decision to Dismiss Legal Action Against the Manufacturer of a Firear

Statement

Date: Oct. 15, 2016
Issues: Guns Legal

"While I am still deeply saddened by the terrible loss of life at Sandy Hook, I applaud the decision by the court, which correctly finds that the manufacturer of the firearm is not responsible for the horrific killings."

"The cause of death or fault, lies not with the manufacturer, nor the firearm itself, but solely with the criminal who misused the weapon."

"It is long past time to stop demonizing firearms and the law-abiding citizens who, while exercising their Constitutional rights protected by the 2nd Amendment, use firearms responsibly for protection of self or loved ones or for recreation."

"In particular, I call upon my opponent, Elizabeth Esty, to join with me in advocating for more effective diagnostic and therapeutic mental health services, which is our best path to stopping mass killings, whether by a firearm or other device or weapon."
