FACT CHECK: Burr Continues Worst-of-Washington "Deceptive" Attacks on Deborah's Strong Record of Working to Keep Families Safe

Senator Richard Burr released yet another attack on Deborah Ross' record of working to keep families safe, continuing the worst-of-Washington attacks that the Raleigh News & Observer has already called "deceptive" and "ridiculous." Deborah's record includes pushing for harsher sentencing and tougher penalties for violent criminals, and she fought to end the rape-kit backlog. Unlike Senator Burr who voted against reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act, Deborah worked to make sure women and families who were victims of violence had access to care.

"These attacks tell you everything you need to know about Richard Burr: he'll say whatever it takes to try to save his own career even if it's false and misleading," said Helen Hare, Senior Communications Advisor for Ross for Senate. "This is Washington at its worst, and just the latest effort to distract his 20-plus years in Washington, where Senator Burr's personal wealth grew by 400 percent and he voted to increase his own pay -- but against a wage increase for North Carolinians."

Earlier this week, Lisa Angel, former Chair of the North Carolina Domestic Violence Commission, spoke against similar attacks and confirmed: "I firmly believe there are survivors who are alive today and their abusers in prison as a result of Deborah's work for North Carolina."
