Ross Statement on Senator Burr's Special Interest-Funded Trips & Votes Against Reforms to Crack Down on that Type of Travel

A new investigation of Senator Burr's travel records reveal how he's made Washington work for him, but not for North Carolina. Over the course of his 20-plus years in Washington, Richard Burr has taken nearly 30 trips "around the United States and the world" paid for by special interests and totaling more than $100,000. Senator Burr then went on to vote against legislation to crack down on special interest-funded travel the same day that Deborah Ross passed ethics reform in the North Carolina State Legislature.

"This news report into how Senator Burr enjoyed more than $100,000 of special interest-funded trips and then voted against bipartisan Congressional ethics reform to crack down on that sort of travel is exactly what's wrong with Washington. North Carolinians have seen again and again how Senator Burr has spent the last 20 years putting himself first, and they've had enough. The same day Senator Burr voted against the reforms to crack down on the free travel he benefited from, I passed our own bipartisan ethics reform here in North Carolina. There's no question that as Senator, I won't go to Washington to get rich, I'll go there to put North Carolina first."
