The Ross campaign issued the following statement on tonight's debate, in which Deborah and Senator Burr laid out two very different visions for North Carolina -- and Deborah showed clearly that it's time North Carolina had a Senator who will put the people first.
Statement from Helen Hare, senior communications adviser:
"Tonight North Carolina heard about two very different visions for North Carolina. Senator Burr talked about another six years where Washington works for him and the special interests, and Deborah focused on what North Carolina is really looking for--real change.
"Before North Carolina voters, Senator Burr lied about the seven times he voted to raise his own pay, he refused to answer questions about why he voted against a ban on insider trading for members of Congress, and he couldn't explain why his net worth increased by more than 400 percent during his time in the Senate. He once again showed he's a classic Washington politician, and that's exactly what workers and families are sick of.
"This was a disappointing evening for voters who are still learning about Senator Burr's dismal 20-plus years in Washington, but when they send Deborah to Washington, they'll finally have a US Senator who puts the people first."
