Ayotte Statement On NH Supreme Court Decision in Marriott Case

U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte today released the following statement regarding news that the New Hampshire Supreme Court has decided to keep documents from the murder trial of Lizzi Marriott sealed as the case progresses through the appeals process.

"The New Hampshire Supreme Court made the right decision today to protect Lizzi Marriott's privacy by keeping the records at issue from her trial sealed during the appeals process and I hope this step can bring some small solace to Lizzi's family as they continue to mourn and remember their daughter. As a former prosecutor and Attorney General who worked closely with victims of crime and their families, I believe our criminal justice system must protect victims to the strongest extent possible. I was reminded of this today at the NH Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence where we recognized the vitally important work being done to support and care for victims and their families. I am grateful for the efforts of Rus Rilee, the Marriott family's attorney, and for the Coalition's work not only with Lizzi's family, but with all those affected by these violent crimes."
