Foster Urges Opponent to Dump Trump

Press Release

Date: Oct. 9, 2016
Location: Naperville, IL
Issues: Elections

Today, Congressman Foster called on his opponent, Tonia Khouri, to completely withdraw her support of Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump. On Friday, leaked audio revealed Trump bragging about sexually assaulting women. Recorded in 2005, the audio has prompted Republican leaders to call for Trump to step down.

"I am horrified and repulsed by Donald Trump's comments. In light of this new revelation, I call on my opponent to join Illinois' Senator Mark Kirk and urge Trump to vacate the ticket. As the father of a daughter, I absolutely condemn these kinds of comments and the behavior they encourage. They have no place in civilized society, much less public office, and are further proof that Trump is unfit for the Presidency of the United States."

The audio joins a list of comments tinged with racism and misogyny, foreign policy proposals that would endanger U.S. national security, and questionable business and personal financial practices. Some of the worst offenses include:

*praising foreign despots including Vladimir Putin, Saddam Hussain, and Muammar Gaddafi;

*failing to pay contractors who performed work for him and his business;

*avoiding paying personal income taxes since 1995;

*suggesting women should be punished for having abortions;

*and saying he would force members of the military to commit war crimes.
