Cramer: China Lifting Ban On U.s. Beef Good News For Producers And Consumers

Congressman Kevin Cramer released the following statement regarding the announcement today that China is lifting a 13-year ban on U.S. beef exports. The ban was imposed in 2003 as a result of a Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) scare. Read more from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) here.

"This is great news, both for our cattle producers and consumers worldwide. It presents another opportunity for our livestock producers to help feed a hungry world. China's 1.4 billion people have a growing appetite for meat consumption, and North Dakota producers have premium product to export. Technical negotiations on lifting this ban are underway, and I will work with the USDA and other agencies to see this large and ever-expanding market opens as soon as practical."
