Rep. Zinke Announces More Than $520,000 in Grants for Montana Tribes

Today Montana Congressman Ryan Zinke announced more than $520,000 in federal grants for the Chippewa Cree (Elder), Confederated Salish and Kootenai (Flathead Reservation), and the Northern Cheyenne (Lame Deer) Tribes. The Department of Transportation grants were part of the FY2016 Tribal Transit Program.

"Infrastructure is not solely an expense it's also an investment in the economic future of our communities," said Rep. Zinke. "Projects like these will help tribal residents get to and from work, doctor appointments and to school. Keeping Montanans healthy and building a better economic future rely on reliable infrastructure."

The Northern Cheyenne Tribe will receive $ 119,340.00 in funding to purchase replacement vehicles to enhance their ability to provide elderly, disabled and tribal and community members in Southeast Montana with access to jobs, health care and social service appointments.

The Confederated Salish and Kootenai will receive $ 329,843.00 in funding to purchase a new bus, modernize its intermodal transit hub and install new ADA compliant bus shelters. The new vehicle will transport residents of the reservation and surrounding communities of Missoula and Whitefish in Montana to jobs and other opportunities.

The Chippewa Cree Tribe will receive $ 77,875.00 in funding to purchase buses to replace existing, aging buses and improve access for reservation residents and visitors to healthcare, shopping, education, recreation, public services and jobs in Havre, Montana.
